Biodiversity of Mongolia: Names, Distribution and Identification of Vertebrate Species

Mongolia has a high diversity of vertebrate species living in different natural zones and belts from the northern to the southern end of the country.

A total of 78 species of fishes (belonging to 47 genera, 15 families and 8 orders), 6 species of amphibians (5 genera, 4 families and 2 orders), 23 species of reptiles (15 genera, 7 families and 1 order), 513 species of birds (235 genera, 69 families and 22 orders) and 140 species of mammals (79 genera, 25 families and 7 orders), totaling 760 species of vertebrates have been recorded in Mongolia.

However, until the publication of this book there has been no compilation of the names, distribution and identification of all the vertebrate species, occurring in Mongolia.

The completion of this book in different languages for known vertebrate species in Mongolia is practically and scientifically significant to Mongolian and foreign scientists, students, guides and tourists, as it will allow us to convey accurate information on species composition, taxonomy, distribution and identification, and to create a database of vertebrate species within the country. Therefore, we have initiated and completed this book for your benefit. .
