Birds of Hustai National Park (1st edition)

Hustai NP is known both within Mongolia and worldwide for its successful reintroduction of Takhi or Przewalski’s wild horse, the last wild horse in the world.

Almost 60% of Hustai NP belongs to the mountain steppe zone. The south-facing slope has abundant rocks and cliffs and is favorable breeding and nesting habitat for many species of raptors. One of the biggest rivers in Mongolia, the Tuul, flows on the southern border of the park.

There are 223 species of birds of 119 genera have been registered in Hustai NP. 7 species are included in Appendix I of CITES, 31 species in Appendix II of CITES, and 11 species are listed in the Mongolian Red List, making Hustai NP a vital area for bird species.
